Modica

Regarding the period of the late baroque the church of St. George and St. Peter in Modica are among the most emblematic architectural monuments for historians;
An expression of the masonry of the time, certainly influenced by books traceable to the contemporary architectural models in the area of the Danube in central Europe.
The culture of the project and the construction yard linked together with skilful knowledge of the masons make it an inseparable entity. The majestic and spectacular tower facing of St George in typical Sicilian style and St. Peter’s with its statues of the twelve apostles and their size form, at the top of a wide staircase, an unmistakeable “signal” of absolute architectural, sculptural and environmental wealth of the sacred landscape of the Iblei.
