Baroque Itinerary of the Noto Valley

The Baroque cities of the Noto Valley were declared a Human Heritage Site in June 2002 and included in the Unesco list of protection of Human Heritage Sites.
It is a vast area that includes eight cities: Caltagirone, Catania, Noto, Militello in the Valley of Catania, Modica, Palazzolo Acreide, Ragusa and Scicli; chosen as the greatest emblem of the reconstruction phenomenon after the earthquake in 1693 which destroyed greater part of south eastern Sicily.
“Being aware of one’s identity and of one’s destiny is fundamental for the preservation of the city”.
For this very reason the International Study Centre on Baroque has organised the 8th International Course on the Preservation and History of Architecture “Vie del Barocco nella Sicilia Sud-Orientale” from the 5th to 12th December 2003.
