Institutional Aims

The CISB aims to promote the study and spread of knowledge of baroque culture and art as well as promoting the following programme in a widespread subject framework:

• To contribute to the enhancement of baroque culture in Sicilian territory between the   1500’s and 1700’s and in other areas of southern Italy and in the Mediterranean; with    initiatives finalised in the realisation of a tourist-baroque itinerary in southern Italy,    foreseen by national and regional legislative measures,
• To set off an awareness, study, survey, cataloguing and publication of this heritage so as    to guarantee its conservation and protection;
• To introduce a course of studies every year on the figurative baroque culture in Sicily and    in the Mediterranean area and moreover, organise seminars, conventions, talks, round    tables and exhibitions on themes relative to the awareness of the conservation of the    existing baroque cultural heritage;
• To publish the documentation of the courses and annual conventions of a series of studies    on baroque and a publication of a journal of the Centre of Studies;
• Granting of bursaries financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Cultural Heritage by    Regional and local departments and by Private or Public Institutions;
• Granting annual bursaries for University thesis on Baroque in Sicily or in the    Mediterranean area.


For such objectives adequate structures for specialised research within the historical periods mentioned will be made readily available; furthermore, they will operate on the bases of a defined and financed programme and an archive of documents and iconographical material will be set up.
